Diggin in the dirt

Despite the cool temperatures today, I still managed to find myself outside for a short time.
Mom and I went and dug all of the day lillies out from one of our garden boxes. Her boyfriend is going to take them over to the house he just bought. We have tons of them all over the yard. Honestly they spread like wildfire and will completely consume your yard. Nevertheless, they are pretty, so we don't mind having them here and there.
We turned the soil and raked out all of the leaves and pine needles. Mom likes the pine, she insists its good for the soil. I couldn't care less, I hate those prickly little buggers. So I ended up tossing them all out.
The box is going to be used for pumpkins and garden beans later on this spring. I can not wait to have my pumpkins growing! I planted the seeds last weekend, and I am constantly checking for any signs that they are about to sprout.
We started some of the beans early. They fell out of the package earlier this week and got soaked. Instead of throwing them away we figured we'd plant them and see if they became anything.

The feeling I get from playing in the dirt is almost indescribable.
Tending to things and helping them flourish. Its super calming and immediately improves my day.

Herbs. A-Z

To help me learn and explore this newfound path each week I will find one herb, research it and tell about it here. I will discuss both magical and mundane uses.
I will start with A which might stand for Alfalfa, or Angelica.
Next week will be B and it will go on from there.
Feel free to join in.

A

Alfalfa - Alfalfa is also known as Buffalo herb,  Lucerne, Purple Medic, Chilean clover.

Image Found Here.

Element: Earth
Gender : Female
Planet: Venus

It is high in protein, fiber and contains B vitamins, beta carotene, vitamins C, E and K.
The reason the alfalfa plants are so rich in nutrients is because the roots grow so deep in the ground, they can grow as far as 20feet or more into the ground.

Alfalfa became popular centuries ago. And was used in many folk remedies. Today it is often used when cooking and is also a a popular health tonic used to help lower cholesteral. As well as helping to treat menopause symptoms, diabetes, and arthritis. It has also been shown to protect against certain cancers, such as breast, and prostate. The Chinese have been using it since the 6th century to help with fluid retention and swelling, as well as kidney stones.  Used as a tea, Alfala can be extreamly calming, and soothing to nerve pain and helpful in particularly stressful situations. It has been known to aide in restoring mental alertness, and improving sleep.

Magically Alfalfa has been known to draw in good fourtune especially pertaining to money matters. Alfalfa keeps away financial troubles and poverty. Often times it is kept in pockets to attract money, especially when gambling. It also known to be sprinkled underneath carpets at businesses to bring in steady business.

With all of the information I found I could go on and on for pages, but this was a great start I think.

This is Me.

Hello all,
welcome to my little space.

A little backround information?
I was raised until I was 14 by my mother. An amazing woman who encouraged me to seek out my own spiritual path, and to be whomever I wanted to be.
When I was 14 I moved with my father and stepmother, we lived together in Southern California for about a year and a half. We then moved to Florida.
I haven't come out of my broom closet, because other than my mother, I fear that those closest to me will turn their backs. One day I will open up, but not until I have figured out where I really am in my journey.

Currently I am living in New England, with my fiance. The mountains, and the forest here call so strongly to me. I knew I had no choice but to come make this place my home again.

For a while I was insistent on being one of those pagans who played with knives and wrote spells, and brewed and chanted. Basically what I thought a good pagan should do. Not that there is a problem with any of those things, they just didn't call to me. I was ending up more frustrated by the amount of money I was spending on "supplies" than anything. I wasn't getting that fufilled feeling I was searching for.

However, here lately I have been leaning towards becoming more of a green witch. Learning about plants and their uses in the mundane and magical world. Hence the name of my blog.
I am not an expert. I will not claim to be. This is just a place for me to document my journey.

Feel free to follow along.
I love comments.
